DGX opens Jakarta office

Aug 13, 2008 Logistics

Freight forwarder and logistics company Dependable Global Express has opened a full service facility in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, the company said Monday.

The new facility will handle ocean imports and exports both for container loads and breakbulk shipping. Through its air division, Dependable AirCargo Express, the forwarder will move air freight in all weight breaks.

The Indonesian office is DGX's 10th owned and operated facility in Asia and the South Pacific. It will be managed by Melcher Klink.

While Indonesia does not receive the same attention as many countries on the Asian continent, the island nation has one of the fastest growing economies in that part of the world, Brad Dechter, president of DGX, said in a statement. We believe there is substantial ocean and air business to be generated by DGX and DAX. Indonesia is a remarkable country. As a nation comprised of hundreds of islands, Indonesia has forged a common economic and political consensus. After flirting with socialism after its independence from the Dutch, capitalism has taken firm root in Indonesia. It has been spurred on by a government that encourages a free market economy. The nation is humming with commerce and industry.

Dechter said his company's control of operations in Indonesia is not like the common practice of American forwarders who use independent agents or franchisees for their Asian business.

Neither independent agents nor franchisees have particular loyalty to any one company, he said. In contrast, our people work full time only for DGX and DAX.
