Egypt Air Cargo declared Hahn its European Hub

Egypt Air Cargo has declared the German Airport Frankfurt-Hahn as its central European hub. The Egyptian cargo airline is planning to increase their weekly flight plan from currently 7 to 15 flights with the new winter flight schedule. That is what Captain Asaad Darwish, Chairman of Egypt Air Cargo announced to eighty of the most important Egyptian exporters on 31 October in Cairo. A meeting with Minister Hendrik Hering and a representative of the airport on a trip for economic relations to Algiers and Egypt preceded this announcement.
“Egypt Air Cargo has been a large factor for the successful development of the freight sector at Hahn for the past five years” says the minister of economics for Rhineland Palatinate, Hendrik Hering. “The increase of weekly flights from 7 to 15 will lead to a considerable incline of economic growth and have the consequence of creating new positions. We are calculating with more then 100 jobs on a mid – term time span which will emerge through the stronger commitment of Egypt Air. “
“The freight carrier Egypt Air Cargo started operation at the Airport Frankfurt-Hahn on 18 December 2002 with one weekly flight to Cairo. During the course of time the frequency has increased to seven weekly flights. Egypt Air Cargo is operating with Airbus A300 cargo equipment which is adapted to market demands and is assessed as low-noise level aircraft. It has a freight capacity of 45 tons. Hassaan Aglan, Sales Manager of Egypt Air Cargo in Germany states “In the meantime we have turned over about 40.000 tons of freight at the Airport Frankfurt-Hahn. With the expansion of our services we can offer our customers freight capacities of more than 1.500 tons per week. We transport goods of all kinds towards Egypt, most of all machine parts and technical equipment but also live animals and valuable freight. In the opposite direction we are specialized in so-called perishables, meaning fresh produce like fruit and vegetables which are grown in Egypt on a large scale and then exported to Germany.” Egypt Air Cargo operates its own perishables terminal which is working at capacity at the Cairo Airport.
Meanwhile the planning stage for the construction of a state of the art perishables center at Frankfurt-Hahn together with a private investor is well under way. “Egypt Air is the most important airline at the Airport Frankfurt-Hahn in terms of perishable goods” says Jorg Schumacher, Managing Director (Speaker) of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. “With the new perishables center we will further improve the standard of quality at the Airport Frankfurt-Hahn.” Currently the refrigeration of the existing freight handling facilities is being used.
75 years have passed since the founding of Egypt Air on 7 May 1932. The management and staff of Egypt Air have restructured the business model with great dedication and thus well prepared the airline for the requirements of the 21st century. Egypt Air is not only the leading airline in the Middle East and Africa but also the seventh airline that joined IATA. Egypt Air Cargo has a market share of about 50% of the entire Egyptian air freight turnover.
