Robert E. Perez was formally sworn in Monday as director of field operations in New York for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the U.S. Custom House at Bowling Green in lower Manhattan.
He replaces Susan T. Mitchell, who was appointed executive director of operations at CBP headquarters in June.
Perez will manage operations and enforcement activities for the metropolitan area, which includes two of the country's top four busiest international airports, as well as the East Coast's largest container seaport and two international mail facilities. He will manage more than 2,700 employees with expertise in passenger, cargo and trade operations.
Prior to his selection, Perez served as the director of field operations in Detroit.
