Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines on Monday said Eng Aik Meng will succeed Ron Widdows as president of its APL container-shipping unit.
Eng is deputy chief executive officer with Singapore-headquartered shipping and industrial supply chain company IMC Corp. Group, and also managing director of its Aurora Tankers business.
Eng has previous experience with NOL, having been at the company from 1993 to June 2007, most recently as senior vice president of APL's intra-Asia business from 2002 to 2007.
During this period APL grew its position in the intra-Asia trades substantially, doubling revenues and establishing a leading market position in the sector, NOL said in a statement. In earlier roles, Mr. Eng headed NOL's strategic planning group and held various positions in corporate finance. He has been involved in merger and acquisition activities, organizational restructuring and business development projects in both NOL and IMC. Mr. Eng played an important role in the integration of NOL and APL following the 1997 merger of the two companies.
Widdows, who was appointed NOL Group president and CEO on July 7, said Eng's close knowledge of APL played a big part in the decision.
We have worked together closely over many years and I am confident Aik Meng will provide strong leadership for APL and bring valuable skills to NOL's senior management team, Widdows said.
