Jul 10, 2008 Logistics

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) has received its first Boeing 737-300SF (Special Freighter) that will provide additional capacity between Ukraine's capital Kiev and Vienna in Austria.

UIA's first Boeing 737-300SF will provide additional capacity between Kiev and Vienna.

The modified passenger-to-freighter aircraft was previously used by Kitty Hawk and has been leased under a five-year term by UIA from GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS). The plane has a cargo capacity of 16 tons and 127 cubic meters and will initially operate three flights a week every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, increasing to five flights a week in early August with the launch of Tuesday and Thursday services. The airline plans to lease another of the same type freighter in early 2009 to meet demand.

The new Kiev/Vienna service will be marketed by UIA's exclusive worldwide general sales agent, Globe Air Cargo, part of the European Cargo Services (ECS) group.

This increase in capacity means we can provide greater support to the airline's freight forwarding customers and also carry shipments that were previously restricted because of their size, said Guy Tordjman, president of ECS.
