Companies will make rail cars in India

American Railcar Industries of St. Charles, Mo., and Amtek Auto Ltd. of New Delhi said they plan to create a 50-50 joint venture to manufacture, sell and supply freight railcars and their components to customers in India and other countries to be agreed upon.

They plan to begin construction of the facility during the second half of this year, following final site selection. It is expected that the joint venture could begin railcar production in 2009.

The joint venture will initially manufacture railcar types used in India. The parties anticipate the joint venture would introduce and build railcars new to the Indian market, based on American Railcar designs, within the next few years.
