CBP in El Paso finds untreated pallets in the stack

Jun 17, 2008 Logistics

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agricultural specialists working at the Ysleta cargo facility near El Paso, Texas, on June 9 demonstrated their sharpened eye for wood packing violations by locating two untreated wood pallets in a shipment of 500.

The agency said the importer was notified and the entire shipment was returned to Mexico for proper treatment.

International standards, which were put in place in 2006, call for most wood packing materials to be either heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and marked with an approved international mark certifying that treatment.
