Liege Airport's 'Flyin' Farm' contributed to the' Spruce Meadows' Special Masters

Oct 12, 2007 Logistics

On 1st September, with the ‘Spruce Meadows’ Masters special - an internationally-recognised horse show – being held in Calgary, southern Canada, Liege Airport welcomed 47 competition horses with the European Champion among them.

Transport for the horses from Liege to Canada, which was handled by FedEx, required an airport equipped with a covered Veterinary Inspection Station, allowing horse boxes to be lined up for aircraft in order to facilitate and accelerate veterinary inspection and the loading of the horses whilst ensuring the best possible level of comfort.

The success of this operation was ensured thanks to close co-operation between the various Liege Airport services, LACHS (a subsidiary of Cargo Airlines), FedEx, the Veterinary Inspection Station, the Customs office and the federal Police.

Thanks to the efficiency of its ‘Flyin’ Farm’, the first entry point in Europe for all living animals and animal products, Liege Airport was able to perform the operations required to transport the racehorses.
