Weyerhaeuser explores alternatives for shipping line, railroads

Jun 2, 2008 Logistics

New York-listed Weyerhaeuser Co. said today it is exploring strategic alternatives for its Westwood Shipping Line and four regional short line railroads as part of an ongoing portfolio restructuring.

The Federal Way, Wash.-based forest products giant said Westwood will continue full operations during the transition, which it is yet to set a timetable for completing.

Westwood operates four ConBulk vessels shipping forest products and containerized and oversized cargo on fixed-day services connecting more than 20 ports in Japan, Korea, China and North America.

Weyerhaeuser's four short line railroads used primarily to source mills in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Washington, are the DeQueen & Eastern, Columbia & Cowlitz, MSV, and Golden Triangle railroads.
