Southwest Airlines Cargo adds second Hawaii destination

May 28, 2008 Logistics

Southwest Airlines Cargo has expanded its service to Hawaii through the firm's interline agreement with Hawaiian Air Cargo to include Kahului, the largest city on Maui.

The interline agreement allows Dallas-based Southwest to allow customers throughout the carrier's 64-city mainland network to ship to Kahului. Southwest routes the cargo through San Diego, where Hawaiian Air Cargo 767s transport the cargo to Kahului.

A similar agreement, already in operation, provides Southwest air cargo customers access to Honolulu.

Located in central Maui, Kahului with its maritime port and regional airport serves as the island's main entry point for cargo. With several big box retailers, numerous shopping malls and major department stores Kahului also serves as the primary retail shopping center for Maui residents.
