Report: Dutch freight ship hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands-The Netherlands' national broadcaster is reporting that a Dutch freight ship has been hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

NOS news reports that pirates seized the ship, the MV Amiya Scan, in the Gulf of Aden.

The shipping company, Reider Shipping BV, based in the town of Winschoten in the far north of the Netherlands, could not be reached for comment late Monday.

The ship sails under a Panamanian flag. It was not clear how many crew members are on board, and of what nationality.

The Amiya Scan departed Kenya on May 19 on its way to Romania.
