ANA sees 18th month of international cargo volume growth

ALL Nippon Airways, one of Japan's two major airlines has reported an 18th month of consecutive growth in international cargo volumes in February of 11.3 per cent to 34,123 tons.


February marked a slower rate of change for the second month following December increase of 29.3 per cent and January's 15.8 per cent hike.


ANA's international cargo volume through the fiscal 2010 from April 1 showed a strong increase of 32 per cent to 450,450 tons year on year.


Despite domestic cargo volume up in the same 11-month period by 4.4 per cent its first domestic cargo volume dipped for the first time in 15 months in February, a decrease of 0.1 per cent to 34,078 tons following month previous increase of 1.6 per cent.


Japan Airlines' move to a different cargo-based model using passenger bellyholds and freighters and the suspension of schedule freight flights from October has boosted ANA's performance.


JAL's international cargo volume dropped for the ninth month in February by 59.1 per cent to 17,242 tons while its domestic declined by 11 per cent for the eight consecutive month to 28,958 tons.
