Hong Kong's No 2 ground handler, AAT, increases March tonnage 12pc

HONG KONG's No 2 ground handler, Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT), has announced its March throughput hit 63,271 tonnes, an increase of 12 per cent year on year.


Export cargo increased 11 per cent to 45,137 tonnes while import cargo went up 11 per cent to 17,440 tonnes. Transshipment volume came to 693 tonnes, up 83 per cent against the corresponding figure in 2010.


Export tonnage from January to March stood at 113,520 tonnes, representing a 13 per cent increase year on year. Total imports for first quarter increased 13 per cent to 50,659 tonnes. Transshipments came to 1,915 tonnes from the beginning of the year, up a 102 per cent year on year.


Said AAT corporate development general manager Nelson Lee: "AAT has recorded a good growth in the first quarter of 2011, nevertheless, we are aware of the challenges ahead."
