To continually upgrade its business continuity plans, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) recently staged a comprehensive typhoon drill with the aim of testing and enhancing Hactl’s crisis management procedures, communication and coordination processes.
Set against a simulated background of a strong typhoon, this business continuity drill conducted in early May saw active participation of the Hactl Cargo Contingency Response Centre (CRC) and with involvement by airline clients, business partners and the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA). The Hactl CRC takes a leading role to ensure Hactl’s service recovery procedures respond rapidly to circumstances, and at the same time, maintaining a constant information exchange with all stakeholders.
Airline representatives and associated partners tested the key line functions in the relevant departments of Hactl to simulate the corresponding business activities. Communication links with clients, business partners and government agencies were also tested to ensure business continuity during the four-hour exercise.
This was a good experience for us and it enables us to further familiarise and update ourselves with crisis communications and operations procedures. We are already fine-tuning our processes based on feedback and observations made during this drill. Mr. Kenneth Bell, Director, Service Delivery of Hactl, also expressed his appreciation to the AAHK, airline clients and business partners that participated in the simulation.
