GERMAN logistics provider Dachser increased revenue 19 per cent in 2010 to EUR3.8 billion (US$5.44 billion), driven by growth in its air and sea freight logistics business.

Last year the logistics provider transported 46.2 million consignments weighing a total of 35.5 million tonnes.

A company statement said its equity ratio stands at 40 per cent and it plans to invest EUR1.3 billion in the next five years.

A breakdown of each business segment shows that European logistics, which mainly does cross-continent groupage, posted revenues of EUR2.4 billion. Air and sea logistics, which focuses on the US, South American, European and Asian markets, generated revenue of EUR940 million, up 68 per cent on the previous year.

Its food logistics division that combines the provision of transport services with warehousing and value-added services posted revenue of EUR480 million in 2010.

"For this business year, the company aims to achieve healthy growth and to break the double-digit growth barrier. It is also planning to invest around EUR260 million in extending its logistics network in all three business fields," a statement from the firm said.

In 2011, two new Eurohubs in Bratislava and Clermont-Ferrand will be linked to the existing Eurohub in Ueberherrn in the Saarland, in a bid to reduce the number of cross-docking operations and cut shipment times within Europe.
