FedEx Express starts 777F service from US-Seoul

Mar 30, 2011 Logistics

FEDEX Express has launched a new US to South Korea service using a Boeing 777 freighter to link the company's hub at Memphis to Seoul with four direct flights a week, to meet increasing customer demand.

The company said in a statement that the new route offers "faster service and larger cargo capacity" to enable it to deliver documents and packages from the US, Canada and selected markets in Latin America to Seoul in two to three business days.

The new service "will provide a competitive advantage to customers anticipating an increase in business opportunities following final approval of the Korea-US FTA (Free Trade Agreement)," said Eun-Mi Chae, managing director of FedEx Express Korea.

The express company said it has been expanding its fleet of 777F aircraft because of their "fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions."

It already operates the 777F in Asia Pacific with connections to Memphis from Hong Kong, Singapore via Osaka, Shanghai and Shenzhen. In addition, a 777F was deployed to link Hong Kong to its Europe hub in Paris last December.
