THE American Trucking Associations' seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index declined 2.9 per cent in February after increasing 3.5 per cent in January.
Compared with February 2010, tonnage climbed 4.2 per cent, though this was smaller than January's 7.6 per cent year-on-year increase. Tonnage is up 5.9 per cent in the first two months of 2011 year on year.
Said ATA economist Bob Costello "Tonnage is not going to increase every month, and in general, I'm pleased with freight volumes early this year."
