ISRAEL Airports Authority said that total air cargo in February 2011 at Ben-Gurion International Airport amounted to 24,499 tons of air cargo, down from 25,835 tons in February 2010, a drop of 5.17 per cent year on year.
In February Israeli flag carrier El Al carried 4,363 tons of cargo aboard its freighters, up 8.95 per cent and took a 33 per cent stake of the market share. The airline carried 4,105 tons of cargo in the bellyholds of its passenger fleet, a drop of 3.54 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier when it carried 4,256 tones.
In February, rival airline CAL transported on its freighters 5,102 tons of cargo, down 8.95 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier when it carried 5,604 tons. During February, CAL's market share was 38 per cent, reports Israeli trade portal Port2Port.
Cargo volumes on passenger aircraft amounted to 11,363 tons out of which 6,494 inbound and 7,146 tons outbound cargo, a decrease of 2.12 per cent compared to same period 2010.
Freighters only flew a total of 13,136 tons out of which 6,422 tons inbound and 6,714 tons outbound, also down 7.65 per cent year on year.
