GLOBAL supply chain giant CEVA Logistics has signed a three-year contract to distribute spare parts for Mercedes-Benz and smart cars in Italy involving the shipment of 200,000 cartons a year.
CEVA will handle the distribution of parts from the Mercedes-Benz warehouse at Capena, near Rome, by road to any point in Italy with guaranteed delivery by 1pm the next day for VOR (Vehicle Off Road) and urgent deliveries.
CEVA's advanced track and trace system will show constant visibility of the delivery status of each parcel dispatched through its central hub, the EUR6 million (US$8.28 million) control tower in Assago (Milan, Italy).
"We have chosen CEVA as a partner because of its consolidated expertise at an international level in the distribution of spare parts for the automotive sector," said Mercedes-Benz Italia sales director Eckhart von Sas in a company statement, of a collaboration that will optimise transportation costs.
Said CEVA managing director in Italy Carlo Rosa: "The network of specialised operators we rely upon and the sophisticated monitoring systems for orders guarantee our customers maximum flexibility and control over the shipment of their goods."
