4 Years’ Results of Russian Railways

During the 4 years (since October,1 2003) there were transported 5 bn tons of cargo. Every day 3.7 mn tons of cargoes are transported by Russian Railways. 3.8 mn of passengers go by trains of the company every day. These data were announced by Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways, during the press-conference devoted to the Day of the company.

For the 4 year there were invested 750 bn rubles in Russian Railways. According to him, money is put in the major projects. In particular, he named such projects as the development of roads to sea ports, rail roads of Kuzbass – Black Sea Basins, Kuzbass – Far East and development of the Sochi railway infrustructure.

Besides, the president of Railway compared the results of the company with the results of Soviet rail ways. Thus, Baikal-Amur road is used on 85%. Besides, via the road to the Novorossiysk port transported 30% cargo more than in the USSR. Moreover, there are some new directions – to the port of Ust-Luga, for example. The investment program of the company includes the developments the roads to ports. V.Yakunin also said some words about the high-speed rail road Moscow – Saint-Petersburg. There is no the law base, but we have been seriously working on these projects, - added he.
