Terex wins UAE contract for 20 sprinter carriers

An order for 20 Terex Noell SC624E diesel-electric Sprinter Carriers has been placed by Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), in the United Arab Emirates for use in the new Khalifa Port currently being constructed at Al Taweelah.


With the first phase of the port’s infrastructure due to be completed by Q4-2012, the 1-over-1, 9’ 6” carriers will be operational no later than mid 2012. The contract includes an option for ADPC to order additional units for the second phase of the port’s development.


The new Khalifa Port includes a multi-purpose port island covering an area of approximately 3 sq km located 4.5 km offshore. Initially from 2012 it will operate to a capacity of 2m teu and 12m tonnes of general cargo. These capacities can be increased to 15m teu, plus 16m tonnes of general and roll-on/roll-off cargo, plus 25m tonnes of dry bulk annually.


“ADPC has chosen our diesel electric Sprinter carriers after careful analysis. This large order is evidence of the confidence that large port authorities like ADPC have in the quality of our company’s equipment, expertise, customer service and after-sales support,” said Guido Luini, managing director, Terex Cranes.


This is the second Terex Noell SC624E Sprinter carrier contract awarded to the company in recent months, following four diesel-electric units delivered to CSXI, North Baltimore (USA) and a contract for 20 diesel-hydraulic NSC422H units for Hyundai Development Corporation for the new port of Busan, South Korea.


Both the Abu Dhabi and South Korea projects will be operating the Sprinter carriers in semi-automated terminals.
