TAIWAN's Evergreen has announced plans to launch a new service called BHI (Bo Hai-Indonesia), connecting north China, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
The BHI service is expected to help ease the slot shortage in thriving Asian markets. The line will use three 1,700-TEU and one 2,000-TEU ship, providing weekly sailings, calling at Tianjin, Dalian, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Shekou, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Shanghai and back to Tianjin.
Evergreen said Indonesia is the largest consumption market in Southeast Asia with a population of over 200 million. Abundant natural resources also make it one of the major providers of raw materials in the world. The country recorded an annual growth of five to six per cent in the last five years. It even grew 4.5 per cent in 2009 downturn year.
