TURKEY'S Celebi Ground Handler is to lease half of the Budapest Airport's Cargo City due for completion end of 2012, taking 7,000 square metres of warehouse and offices, and another 5,000 square metres additional space.

The first phase of the air cargo centre development, adjacent to Terminal 2, will provide 26,000 square metres and more than double cargo handling capacity within the next two years at 250,000 tonnes a year. The airport saw robust increase in cargo traffic of 32 per cent in 2010 to 82,638 tonnes and 23 per cent lift in freighter movements of 5,808.

The Budapest Ferihegy Airport's development programme BUD Future received the go-ahead from nearby town Vecses for the distribution centre, according to a report from Mohnesee, Germany's Property Magazine International.

Celebi Ground Handling provides a range of operation, passenger, cargo, ramp and security services and has 25 stations at airports throughout Turkey and in Budapest, Mumbai and Delhi.
