Dragonair announced it is launching a number of initiatives to support the relief efforts in China, following the earthquake that devastated the Sichuan province on Monday. In addition to a donation of HK$2 million to the Hong Kong Red Cross in conjunction with its sister airline Cathay Pacific, Dragonair is providing a mechanism for its staff to make donations, which the company will match dollar for dollar.
In addition, with the kind support of The Nature Conservancy, the airline’s inflight charity programme, “Change for Conservation”, will now collect funds in support of the relief efforts.
“Money donated by passengers throughout our network between May 17 and June 13 will go to the Hong Kong Red Cross, which is one of the major organisations involved in getting supplies, medicine and relevant personnel to the affected areas,” said Dragonair Chief Executive Officer Kenny Tang.
“We will also offer whatever support the Government and various relief organisations may need in sending their rescue team and relief supplies to the affected areas,” Mr. Tang added.
The airline announced earlier that it will waive rebooking and rerouting charges for all tickets issued worldwide on or before May 12 for travel to and from Chengdu and Chongqing between May 12 and May 26, inclusive.
