Port Vysotsky mulls changing cargo nomenclature

Feb 21, 2011 Logistics

Port Vysotsky LLC, operator of Vysotsky Coal Terminal located in Leningrad region, is considering the possibility of diversification of its cargo base, the PV’s CEO Vadim Pavlov said in an interview with journalist. Currently, the port has 6 hectares of free land for development.

As part of diversification plan Port Vysotsky is considering the construction of a terminal for handling mineral fertilizer and other bulk cargoes. According to Vadim Pavlov the company has been in talks with shippers, but declined to name them.

One of the incentives for possible change of cargo nomenclature was the volatility of the coal market, Mr. Pavlov said.

In the period from 2008 through 2010 the port implemented several projects, such as reconstruction of piers, dredging of harbor and approach channel, ordered by Rosmorport within the Federal Target Program "Modernization of transport system of Russia (2002-2010)”. The projects completion enables the port to receive 11.9-m draft vessels. Now, the port can handle two 45,000dwt ships and three 25,000ships at a time.

Port Vysotsky LLC specializes in shipments of Russian coal exported to Western Europe. In 2010 the company handled 2,3 million of export coal versus 2,9m tons a year earlier.
