AFTER denying links to 13 munitions-laden containers, Iran's ambassador to Nigeria, Hussein Abdullahi, has admitted the consignment was Tehran-ordered under a deal with Gambia signed before UN sanctions banning such trade were enacted.
"It is based on the agreement signed between Iran and Gambia three years back," Mr Abdullahi told media.
The boxes were seized last October at the APMT container Apapa terminal near Lagos, reported London's Containerisation International, which added that Gambia, which has denied any connection with the shipment, has since broken off relations with Tehran.
Asked why the rockets and grenades had been described in the Bill of Lading as "packages of glass wool and pallets of stone", Mr Abdullahi said a private company handling the shipment had made the misdeclaration.
