Alashankou Pass cargo volume up 8.6 per cent last year

CHINA's western border town of Alashankou Pass, on the Sino-Kazakhstani border, handled 25.2 million tonnes of cargo last year, an increase of 8.6 per cent compared to 2009, Xinhua reports.


Imported cargo came to 20.1 million tonnes, up 9.1 per cent. Exports went up 6.8 per cent to 5.2 million tonnes, ranking the first of all overland customs checkpoints in China.


The checkpoint recorded a trade value of US$11.9 billion last year, up 39.8 per cent, also the largest among all overland checkpoints in China. Imports valued $10.4 billion, surging 72.1 per cent. Export valued fell 38.6 per cent to $1.5 billion.


The customs collected CNY10.4 billion tax last year (US$1.6 billion), up 49.8 per cent. CNY320 million was tariff, up 28.5 per cent. CNY10.1 billion was import value added tax.
