Jan 30, 2011 Logistics

Queenslanders who want to visit Sydney – Australia’s most popular destination for tourists.

The CEO of Sydney Airport, Russell Balding, congratulated Tiger Airways and said that its decision to add this new service from Sydney Airport demonstrated Sydney’s attractiveness for business and leisure travellers.

“Tiger Airways has been flying from Sydney since July 2009 and has been steadily growing its domestic route network.

“Their first service flew to Melbourne four times a day. Since then it has added services to Adelaide and the Gold Coast and will add a service to Brisbane in February and to the Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore) in March.

“With the new services Tiger Airways will be flying from Sydney to three destinations in south-east Queensland – the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

“This gives extra choice for passengers and is a real boost for Australian tourism. I congratulate all the team at Tiger Airways and wish their new service every success,” Mr Balding said.

In 2010 more than 450,000 passengers flew between Sydney and the fast growing Sunshine Coast.

The Sydney – Sunshine Coast route is the ninth busiest domestic route flown from Sydney Airport.

Sydney Airport is a very attractive location for airlines given that it is located only eight kilometres from the CBD and therefore close to global icons such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
