SOME 1,117 kilometres of new expressways have been built in southwestern Chongqing city during the period from 2006 to 2010, marking the completion of the state expressway network in the city, Xinhua reports.

Chongqing's expressway density has grown to 2.4 kilometres per hundred square kilometres, ranking the first among western Chinese cities.

In the coming five years from 2011 to 2015, Chongqing will reconstruct more than 3,000 kilometres' national and provincial trunk highways. Grade 2 and higher roads will increase in length to 8,200 kilometres - 3,000 kilometres more than that achieved at the beginning of this year.
