Canadian National rail strike off as union makes deal

Jan 26, 2011 Logistics

THE Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union has dropped plans for a strike against the Canadian National Railway (CN) after reaching tentative agreements with the railway.

Details of the agreements are being withheld pending ratification, which the CAW expects to complete before the end of February.

Upon ratification, the agreements would provide fair wage and benefit increases to CAW members and help CN retain and attract skilled employees critical to its workforce in the years ahead.

The CAW represents about 3,975 workers in four bargaining units at CN and subsidiary CNTL. CN has been bargaining with the CAW since September 2010; the union's contracts expired on December 31.
