Israeli 2010 air freight volumes rise 10pc

ISRAEL's total cargo movements amounted to 302,903 tons, up from 274,319 tons a year earlier, representing an increase of 10.41 per cent.

The Israel Airports Authority said in December Ben-Gurion International Airport handled 26,197 tons, down from 28,587 tons in December 2010, a drop of 8.36 per cent year on year.

In December Israeli flag carrier El Al carried on its passenger aircraft 5,039 tons of cargo, up 7.32 per cent. From January to December, the airline carried 57,651 tons of air freight on its passenger aircraft, an increase of 19.61 per cent year on year.

In December rival airline CAL moved 4,584 tons, down 19.12 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier. During 2010, CAL carried 49,016 tons, a decrease of 6.68 per cent, reports Israeli trade website Port2Port.
