Jan 20, 2011 Logistics

YEMEN and the European Union (EU) have discussed arrangements for lifting the ban on Yemeni air cargo to some EU countries, reports the Yemen News Agency.

Transport Minister Khaled al-Wzir briefed the delegation led by EU Policy Officer Aviation Security Rad Olszewski on the measures taken at Yemen's airports to enhance security.

Al-Wzir said that additional security measures include full physical search of all employees entering or leaving the airports and 100 per cent search of all packages and cargo by explosive detectors, X-ray equipment and manual search in addition to detaining all packages and cargo for 48 hours prior to shipping.

The minister made it clear that relations with shipping companies have been reorganised as well as regulations, licences and procedures required to allow such companies to carry out shipping operations.

New security equipment has been installed to detect explosives at Sana'a International Airport at passenger and cargo areas.
