DB Schenker runs Oslo-Narvik link through Sweden

GERMAN logistics giant, DB Schenker, has announced it will launch a new 1,960-kilometre service connecting the Norwegian capital Oslo to the arctic town of Narvik.

The train runs from the Alnabru terminal in Oslo to Narvik via Sweden. It also uses the Ofoten Line, so its freight transport is expected to nearly 30 per cent because of this addition.

This service, operated five days a week by DB Schenker North Rail Express, takes about 28 hours to cover the entire route, making it faster than delivery by truck.

Partnering with the group's intermodal business unit of European rail freight operator DB Schenker Rail, 25,000 containers a year are to be shipped.

"Our new solution is setting a clear course in Norway," said Karl Nutzinger, board member responsible for the company's European land transport.

"Rail has always played an important role for us in supplying customers in Norway. We use all modes of transportation to the advantage of our customers and combine the flexibility of trucks with the benefits of rail."
