Orders for American commercial aircraft and parts fell US$6.6 billion in November while orders for other transport equipment increased, according to the US Census Bureau.
The decline, the third in four months, was held responsible for a $2.6 billion or 1.3 per cent decline in durable goods orders to $193.7 billion, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce while the sluggish aircraft market order slump kept the sector to a $6.2 billion or an 11.9 per cent decline to $45.5 billion.
Orders for manufactured durable goods in November increased 2.4 per cent excluding transport equipment. If one excludes defence spending, new orders decreased 2.3 per cent.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in November, up 11 consecutive months, increased $1.9 billion or 0.6 per cent to $319.1 billion. This followed a 0.6 per cent October increase. Transport equipment, also up 11 consecutive months, had the largest increase, $1.1 billion or 1.3 per cent to $84.3 billion, said the report.
