Boeing may delay delivery of Dreamliner until summer 2011

IT is reported that Boeing Co may delay delivery of its new 787 Dreamliner until late June or July next year, after a Reuters' report said the US aircraft manufacturer was still studying its delivery schedule for the aircraft.

French newspaper Les Echos has also reported that Boeing could begin deliveries next summer, based on talks between Boeing and Air France-KLM.

"We continue to assess our schedule and will announce a new schedule when that work is complete," Boeing was quoted as saying in a report by e-Cargonews Asia.

The latest delay to the delivery schedule for the Dreamliner, which was originally intended to make its debut nearly three years ago in May 2008, follows a fire aboard a test flight in November that resulted in the 787 test fleet being grounding.

Consequently, Boeing has been forced to change the design of the Dreamliner's electrical distribution panels and update power-management software.

Following this latest setback, Boeing had earlier announced that the target delivery date of the first quarter of 2011 would have to be pushed back without giving an exact timeframe.
