Dec 15, 2010 Logistics

Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) tonnage throughput in November 2010 was 69,063 tonnes, recording a growth of 21 percent compared with the same period last year.

Export cargo registered 52,181 tonnes, a growth of 20 percent when compared with the same month last year. Import cargo volume for November was 16,332 tonnes, up 26 percent.

Transhipment cargo volume was 550 tonnes, up 99 percent when compared against the corresponding period in 2009.

Cumulative export tonnage from January to November 2010 was 462,917 tonnes, representing a 49 percent year-on-year growth. Total import tonnage for first 11 months increased by 24 percent compared with the same period last year, to 180,220 tonnes.

Transhipment cargo volume since the beginning of the year was 4,776 tonnes, a 10 percent increase against same period last year.

AAT general manager for corporate development, Nelson Lee said, “It is encouraging that the tonnage handled in November created a new record. The growth was mainly driven by export and transhipment, and although the increase in cargo throughput has slowed, we are on track to break past annual records.”
