DB Schenker invests in North Rail Express

Dec 13, 2010 Logistics

DB Schenker it to launch a North Rail Express on 3 January 2011, which will transport goods by train between Narvik in north Norway and Oslo via Kiruna and Hallsberg in Sweden, Logistics Finland reports. The private rail route will be among the longest in Europe, at 1960 km, and is a response to the low investments in rail cargo transport in Norway. The average speed of the trains will be over 70 km/h.

DB Schenker collaborates with Swedish Green Cargo and Cargolink in the new rail service. The investment will raise the rail cargo volume on the stretch by 30%. In northern Norway, 90% of SB Schenker's goods will be transported by rail.
