Russia opens borders to U.S. livestock

Russia will begin to accept a range of imported U.S. livestock, including breeding cattle and bovine embryos, fattening and slaughter swine, and breeding and sports horses.

Russia will also accept cattle born on or after the implementation of the 1997 U.S. ruminant-to-ruminant feed ban.

The value of these new markets for U.S. exporters is substantial,the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a statement. The new live animal protocols will allow U.S. exporters to participate in Russia's $300 million market for live animal imports.
