FedEx Corp said it planned to increase shipping rates on ground and home-delivery services by 4.9 percent on average, starting early next year.
The increases follow a slew of pricing changes announced in September.
On Friday, the package-shipping giant said the net 4.9 percent rate increase reflected a 5.9 percent boost to the two services' full average rate offset somewhat by a one-percentage-point cut in the fuel surcharge. That cut is the result of an adjustment to the fuel price level at which the surcharge kicks in.
The new rates are effective January 3.
The company also said rates on SmartPost – its low-cost option that has US postal carriers make final delivery – would change but didn't give specifics.
In September, FedEx announced higher rates for FedEx Express, also effective January 3. The new increases were also mitigated by a change in the fuel surcharge.
