UPS okays self after reviewing security since foiled bomb plot

Dec 2, 2010 Logistics

UPS is confident it will experience no difficulties in complying with the latest cargo screening requirements after reviewing its security protocols in the wake of the foiled Yemen parcel bomb plot.

The company said in a statement that it had reviewed its security protocols with the relevant authorities, both in the US and internationally, after suspicious packages were found in its cargo networks, reports Massachusetts-based Logistics Manager.

As a freight forwarder, UPS already participates in the US Transport Security Administration's certified cargo screening programme which requires the company to meet security standards to tender cargo to passenger airlines.

Said UPS chairman and CEO Scott Davis: "Our commitment to detailed security review won't deter the UPS priority for safety and service, even with the demands of a holiday peak season."
