TSA takes cargo-screening roadshow to Seattle

May 12, 2008 Logistics

The Transportation Security Administration will hold an industry outreach meeting in Seattle today to explain its new program for screening air cargo on passenger planes.

Seattle is the latest city in which the agency wants to test its Certified Cargo Screening Program designed to induce manufacturers, distribution centers and freight forwarders to secure and screen cargo at their facilities instead of at the airport.

Under congressional mandate, 50 percent of all cargo on passenger planes must be screened by February.

TSA held program briefings earlier this week in Miami and Atlanta.

The Seattle meeting takes place at the Hilton Seattle Airport and Conference Center from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
