FORWARDERS in Nigeria will now be offered training by The International Air Cargo Association's (TIACA) education and research committee after the successful partnership and launch of training courses with the Federation of East African Freight Forwarders' Association (FEAFFA) covering Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
TIACA has contracted with Hong Kong-based Strategic Aviation Solutions International (SASI), an air cargo consultancy, to develop the week-long course. SASI has designed the curriculum to reflect regional aspects while applying its own expertise delivering global air cargo opportunities.
The first training course will commence in February, initially providing a five-day programme for 20-30 freight forwarding personnel. The course is well-along in development and consists of five modules covering introductions to supply chain management; transport management; IT; border control and processes safety and security.
In developing the course content and structure, SASI has worked closely with the education and research committee's council of associates, a sub-committee of professionals from industry and the education sector.
"We are extremely pleased with the progress SASI has made in developing this programme for TIACA and we are fully on track to commence training in February. We are now in the process of looking at where we want to go next in terms of extending our education footprint," said Boeing regional marketing director and chairman of TIACA's education and research committee Jim Edgar and chairman of TIACA's Education and Research Committee.
"TIACA is working with the Council of the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria regarding a further deployment of the course later in 2011 as well as looking at opportunities to extend our courses into China," he added in a TIACA statement.
