JAL Cargo to hike fuel surcharge on flights out of Japan

Nov 17, 2010 Logistics

JAPAN AIRLINES is seeking permission from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to raise from December 1 2010 its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only.

This comes as JAL started a programme in April 2009 to adjust its cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene from the month before last.

As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of October was US$94.32 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level in June will be within the range of $90 to $94.99 per barrel, reports ASIA Travel Tips.com.

The international cargo fuel surcharge will increase on long-haul international routes from JPY80 per kilogramme JPY87, on medium- haul international routes from JPY69 per kilogramme to JPY75, and on short-haul routes from JPY58 per kilogramme to JPY63.
