SOUTHEASTERN China's Fujian province sees its waterway cargo volume increased 19.9 per cent year on year to 140 million tonnes during the first 10 months of this year while turnover volume grew 27.7 per cent to 184.9 billion tonnes per kilometre.
The province's road cargo traffic went 19 per cent up to 382 million tonnes, according to statistics from the Fujian Provincial Transport Department, quoted by Xinhua, Turnover volume climbed 17.3 per cent to 47.2 billion tonnes per kilometre.
In this period, Fujian made a hefty investment of CNY53.8 billion (US$8.1 billion), up 34.4 per cent year on year and more than last year's total of CNY52.1 billion.
CNY35.1 billion was spent on expressway projects, CNY11 billion on highways, CNY7 billion on water transport, CNY635 million on traffic hub facilities, and CNY111 million on traffic supporting systems.
