FedEx's Christmas cheer - on line retail provides 11pc boost

THE US second largest package shipping giant FedEx has predicted its busiest day in the company's history which will boost its overall holiday season by 11 per cent increase to 223.3 million shipments of which half will be driven by its Smartpost service predominately online retail shipments.


December 13 typically marks the height of activity at 16 million shipments, up 11 per cent year on year from 14.2 million shipments last year with a daily average of eight million.


The buoyant figures follow on from the company's September outlook which forecast a doubling of higher volume for the second time this year.
