Leftist bombers suspected as Greece bans air mail for two days

Nov 5, 2010 Logistics

DOMESTIC Greek leftists are suspected as the source of 14 parcel bombs, which prompted Athens to close down national air mail/parcel service for 48 hours, reported Deutsche Presse-Argentur.

Authorities do not see links to Muslims, or to air cargo bombs found in Britain and Dubai aimed at a US targets, but rather suspect leftist terrorists in Greece.

The bombs were aimed at diplomats and European leaders, including French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, and the Athens embassies of Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, Russia and Switzerland.

The decision came after a mail bomb was delivered to the Berlin office of German chancellor Angela Merkel.

The packages are reported to have contained a gunpowder-like substance and three bombs caused minor damage in Athens, but none were considered to possess lethal force.
