India and the US are set to sign an aviation safety pact, an official statement said, Exim News Service reports.

"The Union government and the US are in the process of entering into Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) which will eventually lead to mutual acceptance of aeronautical products/parts developed in either country," it added.

Some preparatory work like a review of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in 11 areas has been conducted recently by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it was disclosed.

A shadow certification project, in which the DGCA carried out actual work and the FAA reviewed, was also conducted.

"The six-member FAA team observed that the DGCA has a very sound aircraft certification system in place commensurate with the rules, regulations, working procedures," the statement said.

The FAA team was satisfied with the DGCA review, it added.
