SINGAPORE's Changi Airport freight volume grew 7.3 per cent to 151,055 tonnes in September year on year while increasing 14 per cent to 1.34 million tonnes in the first nine months of the year, according to the airport authority.
It also handled 3.39 million passenger movements in September, an increase of 10.8 per cent year on year while year-to-date figures show the airport handled 30.8 million passenger movements, up 15.3 per cent over the same period in 2009.
Traffic posted double-digit gains of 14.9 per cent to southeast Asia and by 16.8 per cent to northeast Asia, on the back of additional flights by Cebu Pacific to Manila, China Airlines to Taipei and Surabaya as well as China Eastern flights to Kunming.
Aircraft movements increased nine per cent to 21,923 in September, totalling 194,894 for the first nine months, a 10.2 per cent gain over the same period last year.
In September, Changi welcomed two new carriers, China's Hainan Airlines, which connects Singapore to Hefei and Dalian and Indonesian cargo carrier Tri-MG Airlines, which operates to Jakarta and Balikpapan.
Changi currently serves 96 airlines operating 5,000 weekly scheduled flights, connecting Singapore to over 200 cities in 60 countries and territories.
