TNT AIRWAYS has announced it will lease three new long-range Boeing 777-200 freighters from Guggenheim Aviation Partners.
The first aircraft is expected to be delivered for service in July 2011, while the rest by the end of 2011 and will be deployed on long-haul routes between Europe and Asia, said the company's release.
Featuring a maximum payload of 107 tons, the B777 carries more payload than a 747 over distances longer than 13,000 kilometres, the company said.
"We are delighted to have concluded this agreement with Guggenheim for these aircraft and we are thrilled by the prospect of introducing the new type in our fleet," said TNT Global Air Network managing director Niky Terzakis.
He said the B777 is a mature and very successful aircraft and the most fuel efficient freighter available, ideal for long-haul service and has low CO2 emissions. These three new freighters will provide additional capacity for TNT to cater for the growing demand in Asian market.
