DURING the five-year period from 2011 to 2015, Tibet plans to pour CNY49.9 (US$7.5 billion) on its traffic infrastructures, Xinhua reported.
Tibet is aiming at raising the mileage of roadways to 70,000 kilometres by 2015 and to use asphalt surface on the five of its national highways and roads connecting major towns and villages. It also plans to build eight freight stations and 50 passenger stations.
From 2006 to 2010, Tibet's mileage of operating road grew from 43,000 to 58,000 kilometres. Roads of fourth grade and above increased from 10,900 to 32,000 kilometres. Paved roadways increased to 8,194 kilometres.
